2013 Here I Come

So here we are.. 2013. This year better be a good one! This is a little thing I wrote for school that I really like.

As I wake up on a sunny, cold, morning I get up and look at the window. The ground is covered with a white, fluffy, shiny layer of snow. I am reminded that it is Christmas. As I walk down the stairs I see the presents underneath the tree looking at me with glaring eyes waiting to be opened.

Tomorrow is Reyes. "The Three Kings." My family celebrates it every year because it is a tradition in Spain. It is like Santa Claus but this you celebrate on January 6th. I cant wait! Also today we went to burn our Christmas tree. You may be thinking "WHAT?!" Here is how it goes: Everyone who wants in Salem can bring their Christmas tree to a beach near the Willows park. When all the trees are there there is a great, big, green pile. So then everyone gathers around the beach and the firefighters come and set the pile on fire! It is so pretty to watch.

Back to December

Here we are back to December. Wow. I cant believe its already December! Time for hot cocoa, snow, presents, Christmas, vacation, mittens, cute hats, and new clothes. Ive already gotten into the season! Yesterday we went to do some grocery shopping and we came across a gingerbread house. Of course, we had to buy it so we made it when we came home. It came out pretty good.

Also this morning i went into the internet and found a recipe for chocolate chip cookies. I made them and they came out delicious!

One more thing, we also bought a mini christmas tree for our room. It is so cute because it has sparkles sprinkles on and around it!

Thanksgiving

Last Thursday it was a special day. Lets just leave at Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is when the pilgrims gave thanks to god for not freezing to death in the winter and finding food. They celebrated this with the Indians that were already on land when the pilgrims came to America. They had a grand dinner with supposedly turkey, corn, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and for dessert pie. People throughout Canada and the US celebrate this holiday on the fourth Thursday of November each year. On Thanksgiving EVERYTHING closes. You cant buy anything last minute. You can only buy it the Wednesday before.

This year my family went to celebrate with some friends. Now, people here gather their whole family and they all have the dinner together. However, all my family lives in Spain and they don't celebrate Thanksgiving there. Our friends made the turkey, stuffing, yams (a type of root), gravy, cipolline (Italian), and the mashed potatoes. My family helped out by making the cranberry sauce and orange rolls. Then for dessert we didn't have pie but my friend made delicious cupcakes.

After the Thursday of Thanksgiving there comes Black Friday. Black Friday is a day when all the stores are open and on sale. This year most shopping malls opened at midnight.
